BBVNSP Named Outstanding Patrol in the Nation for 2000-2001
Big Bear Valley National Ski Patrol (BBVNSP) was honored with the distinction of being named the outstanding ski patrol in the nation for the 2000-2001 season. BBVNSP has earned this honor three times in the past seven years and was runner-up one time during that same time period.
Winning this award once is a great honor for any patrol. Recognition as the outstanding patrol in the nation three times validates what our patrollers know to be true. BBVNSP is outstanding in every area that a patrol can be judged. As individuals, the volunteers of this patrol show tremendous leadership and consistently give back in time, energy and expertise to their own patrol, to their NSP region and division. Our patrollers consistently step to the plate when needed and provide outstanding role models for mentoring our newer patrollers. We also have a lot of fun and in the process develop some lifelong friendships.
Each year we accept some new candidates for training. If ski patrol interests you, come join the best.
A Personal Message From Richard Roth, Patrol Director
I was extremely proud to accept the award for our patrol as the Outstanding Ski Patrol in the nation at the NSP Far West Division summer conference in Sacramento. There are over 600 patrols in the NSPS and this award has been given to less than 10% of those patrols in the entire history of the NSP. Our patrol has now earned this distinction 3 times in the past 7 years and was runner-up once during this same time period. I hope that you all appreciate what this says about our patrol. As a group and as individuals, you are looked upon as examples of how a patrol and a patroller should function. As individuals, your dedication to the mission of patrolling, your hard work and your willingness to sacrifice some of your time, energy and expertise to the improvement of our patrol has paid off. You have been recognized as the best. Again.
I hope the frequency with which this patrol continues to be recognized does not diminish the pride you have in your accomplishment. Some organizations falter when they think they have reached the top. Sometimes it is difficult to continue pushing to be better when you have already been recognized so often as being the best. You have refused to rest on your laurels. Instead, you have continued to provide an outstanding example of dedication and leadership to our new patrollers as well as other patrollers and patrols in the NSP. Within our own patrol, this standard continues to draw and develop the best of the best.
I hope each of you is as proud as I am to be a part of this outstanding patrol. I look forward to another great season of patrolling and comradary this coming winter.
