Show up at 7am and stay through 5pm. Out the door at 7:30am. We setup each run before ski/board public is allowed on by setting up slow signs and a slow maze at the bottom of each chair. Every 2nd run we check in at the patrol station on top of the hill. If any help is needed with setup or any equipment, we go to the location and take care of it. If no help is needed at the time, we patrol the hill, answer any skier / boarder questions, and or clinic with other patrollers. About noon we have a complementary lunch. Afternoon we go out and patrol the hill again.
If we are dispatched to an accident, we take a toboggan to the location, do first aid and stabilize, then transport to the first aid station at the base of the hill. Additional evaluation and reporting is done and then we rotate back up to the patrol station at the top of the hill.
In the late afternoon when the chairs close, we put up closed run signs and sweep the run. When the run is clear we take the last chair back to the top and when we get off the lift, the operators shut down and close the chair. If we have night skiing/boarding in the evening, a second shift of patrollers comes on and the day crew signs out about 5pm. When the hill closes, we sweep the whole hill and are the last skiers and boarders to get off the hill.
At the end of March each year, we have a ‘Ski / Board with Patrol’ day. For those that attend, you get a lift ticket for the day, we have an orientation in the morning, then go to our patrol station at the top of the hill and have lunch. In the afternoon you get matched up with one of our patrollers and go out on the hill. We then have a short wrap-up and let you go.
